Professional Experiences
University of Mary School of Education and Behavioral Sciences Emerging Leaders Academy
- I have been a member of the University of Mary School of Education and Behavioral Sciences Emerging Leaders Academy (ELA) since the fall of 2013.
- Through the ELA program, I have developed in the professional skills of self-image, taking the initiative to lead, connecting with others, team bonding, and personal reflection.
- Please see my link below for more information about my professional development in the Emerging Leaders Academy.
AVID Tutor for Bismarck Public Schools
- In the fall of 2016, I was an AVID tutor for the Bismarck public schools, more specifically Bismarck High School and Legacy High School. I worked with students that were freshmen through seniors.
- For those unfamiliar with AVID, AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. A common misconception of AVID is that AVID is a remedial program for students who achieve below level. AVID is an elective class, and students must apply and be accepted in order to be in the class. AVID is for the students who are achieving on level, but could be achieving above level.
- Although I had only been tutoring in AVID for approximately four months, I learned that AVID students take learning into their own hands, they give and demand respect, and they are always eager for more learning.
- The AVID students I tutored thought that I majorly helped them, but in reality they have immensely helped me realize how I can push myself to be the best professional educator I am called to be.

Attended the North Dakota Council for Exceptional Children Conference 2014
- In the spring of 2014, I volunteered to help work at the registration tables for the conference.
- I was also able to attend some of the sessions at the conference. Although I am not planning to be a special educator, some of the talks and videos at the conference opened my eyes to realize how all teachers need to be aware of their students' needs, whether they are special needs or general needs.
